My name is Troy and I’m a long time gamer, of both computer and table-top games. I’m the dad of a couple of wonderful kids and husband to loving gamer wife. I am the web developer/owner/chief dish and bottle-washer for my own business.

I also love to create games. This has ranged from building Unreal Tournament maps, to indie games, to dungeons for Neverwinter. Beyond that, I love to create content for and play characters in table-top RPGs and I built the Fyxt RPG system in my “free time”.

The Fyxt RPG started as “house rules” years ago. We played a variety of RPGs but were always a little frustrated moving between systems. It seemed that every time we did, we stumbled around for at least a couple of games getting in tune with whatever system we were playing—not only between different genres, but also the rule changes and the never-ending stream of new books, addendums, versions, and add-ons to each individual system.

There was not a single system that covered it all. Eventually we gathered and created house rules that were a little from one game, a little from another, some made up rules, and some creative thinking to try to mash all these together so we had something we enjoyed. Instead, we ended up with a pile of game complications that made things slower and not as fun.

First, we threw out all the old house rules. Then, we remembered the things we liked about them. So we boiled them down into notes about the things we liked in their most basic form. This is when the Fyxt RPG was born.

Over the next couple of years, we took this raw idea and started trying out different ideas with our table top group. Then I started fleshing out the mathematical side by creating a number of algorithms to balance classes (Archetypes), character Powers, and Specialties.

After years and lots of trial and error, we got the system to a point where players could create any kind of character they wanted to. As a GM, I didn’t have to worry about one player being stronger than another. Because I knew it was balanced, I didn’t worry about the game I ran, because I knew it would fit into the game and the players would be able to handle anything, instead of having to “plan for a healer or rogue”.

There came a point when I realized we were really onto something. The group loved it, I loved it. They could play out their craziest, most grandiose character ideas and I, as a GM, could run my craziest, most grandiose adventures!

My group went from just me GMing and on occasion begging someone else to “fill in”, to everyone at the table taking a turn or more GMing. Everyone has ideas, games, and stories they want to try. Because the Fyxt RPG is so balanced and easy, everyone now feels comfortable GMing. Now it’s fun, it’s not as much of a chore as it used to be. It’s so much easier. Now we have to try to figure out how to fit everyone in for a turn at GMing! Best of all, we play all different kinds of games. We’ll play fantasy for a couple of weeks, and then someone wants to run a campaign based off a popular YA trilogy, so we do that for a while. The Walking Dead season gets ready to begin again so we all want to play zombie apocalypse survivors. Then Russia invades another country and I say, why not play out a Special Forces scenario and “jump into the news”, so we do. It’s great! No worries about systems–now we just play whatever comes to mind. The Fyxt RPG does it all. It really is awesome.

We then realized if we loved it, other gamers would love it, too. That’s how FyxtRPG.com was born. I moved all of our rules onto the web and built online tools so everyone would have access to the snazzy stuff we have and added ways for members to store and keep all their own creations. Then we spent some time testing out the tools and the rules so new players could understand what the Fyxt RPG is all about. We also tried to think of the craziest adventures we could to try and find a flaw in the system, or something it didn’t address. We couldn’t crack it, though. The system accommodated all of our ideas.

The Fyxt RPG system works great. The website is getting rolling and now it is time to let a broader public play the Fyxt RPG.

And that is the story of how the Fyxt RPG came to be.

The Fyxt RPG has really worked out well for us and is so much fun to play. I hope you give it a try. There is something liberating about casting off the restrictions and frustrations of all of the other RPG games and playing exactly what we want, when we want, and how we want. That is what’s so great about the Fyxt RPG: it’s about picking the coolest pieces of these other RPG stories, lore, and imagery, or anything you can imagine, and using them in the Fyxt RPG to experience the best role play gaming ever.

Welcome to Fyxt RPG! It’s great to meet you. Thanks for taking some time to introduce yourself.

Let me know if you have any questions about anything.

I am feverishly coding the last little bits of what I want to finish in beta. Then we will go “live”. Which is kind of funny to say since we have been out on the net for 1.5 years now for people to play… but the tinkering with PCs should be mostly done! hehe
