Fyxt RPG Encounter Addition Update!
The first major addition to GM Tools has been released to alpha testing, Encounters! Up until now you have only had mostly “player side” tools and not many Game Master Tools. That is changing, the first major release just for GM’s are Encounters! It is now even easier to run a Fyxt RPG Game!
What are Encounters?
Encounters are the heart of the game and where almost everything takes place. In the Fyxt RPG nearly the entire game is divided into three different types.
- Real Time Encounters (Roleplaying)
- Turn Time Encounters (Skill Challenges)
- Battle Time Encounters (Combat)
Now a suite of tools has been released to be able to open pre-made Encounters to use in your game or easily create some of your own! Want to jump right in? Here is what has been released:
- Encounter Search – Find an Encounter you can use right away!
- Encounter View – View your Encounter for a game.
- My Custom Encounters – Create your own custom Encounters!
- Encounter Generator – Easily create your own Real Time, Turn Time, and Battle Time Encounters.
- NPC Encounter Calculator (Newly Upgraded!) – Design, search for, and add NPCs to Battle Time Encounters.
Details of Encounters
Encounters are the core of the Fyxt RPG game. Almost every in-game activity can be attributed to one of the three types of Encounters. Just like we have Character Sheets to keep track of characters I wanted to give GM similar tools so they can keep track, reuse, and modify Encounters in a large variety of ways.
Instead of having to keep this information in a Google doc and use that along with the existing Fyxt RPG Tools they are now integrated into the Fyxt RPG system. This will add a lot of immediate convenience and make it easier for GMs to run games. It will also open the doors to a huge amount of other awesome things that can now be added. Namely, Adventures, Campaigns, GM Dashboards and more!
Even if you are a player I encourage you to take a look at Encounters and play around with them. They simplify the hardest part of GMing by giving you an easy tool to make fun and balanced Encounters. I’m trying to take as much work out of gaming as possible, so instead Fyxt RPG GMs can focus on playing!
This is where most players should start. Look to see what kind of Encounters have been created. How they are detailed out and what makes a full Encounter. Starting off here the public Encounters will be slim, but just like the other content of the Fyxt RPG it will grow quickly.
This is also where GMs will want to start to see if there are Encounters that are already created that they can use. If so, then most of the leg work is done for you and you can get to running a game. If not you can jump into the tools needed to create an Encounter.
Encounter Generator and Calculator
This is the meat and potatoes of this update. The Encounter Calculator is a tool that has been around for awhile but has had a significant upgrade. Not only should it work better now and be more responsive it also gives the ability to search for the NPCs you might be looking for. Then you can create a new Encounter based off your choices! This should make the job of hunting down NPCs that match your Encounter criteria a lot faster and easier!
Now onto the Encounter Generator. This is a new tool build specifically to create Encounters. This one tool can make all three Encounter types, Real Time, Turn Time, and Battle Time.
Encounters have a lot of basic information in common. This basic information is part of all Encounters but is really all there is to Real Time Encounters. So, make sure that you are as detailed and descriptive as possible when creating them. They need to be good enough so you can run them, but if you want to Contribute them so others can, really make sure they have everything a GM will need to run the Encounter.
When the Encounter Type is set to Turn Time Encounters a new section will appear. This section will let you add either prebuilt Turn Time Round Actions or custom created Turn Time Actions. Actions are the core of what Turn Time is. They are a goal that the entire party has for the round and must make skill checks to determine success on a round by round basis. At the end of the Turn Time Encounter, more successes than failures dictate a successful encounter. With the new Turn Time builder embedded in the Encounter Generator GMs can easily add Round Actions, there difficulty, and any other special notes for the round they might have. It should really help GMs come up with Turn Time Encounters fast and help new GMs see what Turn Time is all about!
Finally, is Battle Time. When the Encounter Type is set to Battle Time there will be a section in the middle that allows you to see your NPCs for the Encounter. If you need to add some it will allow you to head to the Encounter Calculator, design your battle, then go back to the Encounter Generator with ease!
All these tools wrapped into one Encounter Generator should make GMing a lot faster and easier enabling more playing for everyone. Let the dice roll!
My Custom Encounters
Along with all these tools there have been some additional tools added to enable management of your custom Encounters. This page is like the other My Custom pages, but it is for your custom Encounters. You will see there has been a user experience upgrade implemented here, which I hope to add retroactively to the other custom sections.
Anyway, use the My Custom Encounters to manage your creations. You can easily go into viewing and editing these Encounters from this page. This is also where you will check your Encounter for errors for Contribution. It is important to know that these errors are for submissions purposes. You can easily play your own custom Encounters with errors without a problem. When an Encounter is error free and you are done with it you can also submit them from this page. Contributed Encounters count towards extra account space and allow other players to use them. So, submit as many as you can!
As you can see this is a big update and I am excited about it. I hope this is the beginning of many great GM tools that will be released to make it easier to be a GM. Because nobody is playing if we can’t get GMs to step up and run a game. Thank you GMs for all you do!
Now, as far as other updates. Frankly, there are a TON of little tweaks and fixes, but I was not able to keep track of them all. Hopefully, you will have a better experience all around.
